As a public sector body, all of our work is open to scrutiny. The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 gives the public a general right of access to the information we hold. It also sets out exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on us. Any person who makes a request to us for information is entitled to receive that information, subject to certain exemptions.
Our publication scheme
Under the Act, we must adopt and maintain a publication scheme that sets out the information that is routinely made publicly available. We must also ensure that the scheme is reviewed periodically. The scheme has to be approved by the Scottish Information Commissioner. The publication scheme includes:
- the classes of information that we publish or intend to publish;
- in what format the information is available;
- whether the information is free of charge; and
- the cost of all chargeable information.
